NP RDC3 #B-41 - Northern Pacific
Built by the Budd Company in 1956 as Northern Pacific B-41 combo mail/coach, the RDC3 unit served until 1970 with the merger forming Burlington Northern. The unit was sold to Amtrak. Marty Barnard caught this unit being attached to the James Whitcomb Riley (later named Cardinal) to head to Beechgrove for rebuilding. A note on the back of the photo states "Rebuilding for Amtrak", so this was taken just before it headed to Indianapolis. Paul Kuehner photo date may be a little off - more like July or August of 1972 would be in line.
