Title:  PPCX 800333 "Silver Solarium" at N.O.U.P.T.
Description:  The American Association of Private Railroad Car Owners (AAPRCO) held their 1996 annual convention at New Orleans Union Passenger Terminal. Seventeen of the cars which attended the convention, along with Illinois Central business car 800413 and BN power car SNOQUALMIE PASS, arrived on a special train from Chicago on 24 October, pulled by IC E-units 101 and 100. Eight more cars arrived on regular Amtrak trains, and one locally-based car was delivered by the KCS, for a grand total of 26 cars which were parked on tracks 5-10. Twenty-two cars departed on regular trains between Sunday the 27th and the 29th. The last four cars went to the KCS on the 29th and three of these continued on to Mexico on a HIGH IRON special.

The "Silver Solarium" in the Oakland Yard.
Title:  The "Silver Solarium" in the Oakland Yard.
Description:  Normally seen on the end of the Coast Starlight or California Zephyr (along with the annual Feather River Express), the "Silver Solarium", an old California Zephyr vista-dome observation car, sits in the Oakland Yard coupled to the "Silver Rapids" coach. Road number is unknown, but these two cars made a welcome surprise to the collection of equipment sitting in the yard on this day.
