The south wall of the MILW depot, MILW 781, and MILW 01900 caboose at Brodhead, WI on 29 Jun. ’14. The depot was built in 1881. It was donated to the City of Brodhead in ‘78 and has been home to the Brodhead Historical Society since Oct. ’79. MILW 781 is an H10-44 built by Fairbanks-Morse in Beloit, WI in Mar. ’50. MILW 01900 caboose was built by MILW in ’41 and donated to the Brodhead Historical Society in ‘83. Description:
Northeast and northwest walls of MILW depot at Elkhart Lake, WI on 15 Jul. '14. It was built in 1897 in the Queen Anne style. It is now a museum and gift shop. Active WSOR rails pass in front of the depot, but they are not as heavily traveled as a railfan would hope.

Title:
MILW Green Bay, WI Depot
Description:
The south and east walls of the former MILW depot at Green Bay, WI on 24 Sep. '14. The depot, designed by Charles Sumner Frost, was built in 1898 in the Flemish Renaissance Revival style. The railroad abandoned it after they built a new depot at their Oakland yard, where passenger service commenced 15 Jan. '58. They deeded it to Green Bay on 17 Dec. '57. The railroad's Women's Club threw a party at the depot the evening of 11 Jan. '58 under the name “Operation Farewell.” About 200 active and retired MILW employees and city officials mingled, ate and danced long into the night. Music was provided by an orchestra from the Bay School of Music. The Chamber of Commerce occupied the building for many years and there have been other short-lived tenants from time to time. It is currently home to Breakthrough Fuel. The depot is also a stop on the new Green Bay Packers' Heritage Trail because the team traveled to some of their road games from here and were often welcomed by ardent fans upon their return to Green Bay. The former right of way on the west side of the depot is now the Fox River State Trail which runs from Hilbert to Green Bay.

A CN local approaches the ca. 1887 Pembine union depot at the junction of the CN, former SOO, rails and E&LS, former MILW, rails at Pembine, WI on 30 Sep. '14. The local has just dropped off 17 cars for the E&LS and, after a brief pause and a horn blast short of the junction, will head for Goodman, WI with 9 cars. The CN MoW crew is replacing a section of rail on one of the interchange tracks. This awesome, historic depot was wantonly destroyed by arson perpetrated by juvenile miscreants on 17 Jun. 2019.

South and east (originally north and west) walls of the remaining half of the MILW depot at Amberg (originally Pike), WI on 1 Oct. '14. The depot was built by the Milwaukee & Northern ca. 1884, the year they reached Pike, later renamed Amberg. The depot stood east of the tracks, between Coleman Ave. and Amberg Rd., I believe. It has been moved to Amberg Museum Complex, about 2 1/2 blocks southwest of its original location and 180 degrees to its original orientation. Some modifications were made to the depot over the years, it used to be twice as long (with the bay window near the center of the building), the gable ends both have Dutch lap siding instead of the original vertical board-and-batten, the eave on the original south gable end has been shortened, the decorative gable brackets are missing, and the windows in the south gable end wall are gone. CN 8804, BCOL 4642, CN 2273 at MILW Neenah, WI Depot
Description:
CN ore train passes the former MILW depot as it crawls southwest via the former joint MILW/SOO rails at Neenah, WI on 8 Jan. '15. The depot was built by Milwaukee & Northern in 1882 and is home to the Neenah-Menasha Model Railroad Club. The head of the train had crawled over a mile through Neenah and into Menasha far enough for the train to clear the turnout at the east end of the wye. The train has now reversed to take the east leg of the wye into the yard, before eventually continuing on toward its destination.

MILW/WSOR Horicon, WI Depot
Description:
WSOR local has parked next to the former MILW depot at Horicon, WI after completing a trip to Oshkosh and back on Memorial Day, 25 May ‘15. The current depot dates to ca. 1915. The Wis. Railroad Commission, after hearing complaints from the Horicon Advancement Assn., ordered MILW to construct a new depot. The previous depot, built ca. 1888, was deemed too small, outdated, and unsanitary. I haven't been able to determine if this was new construction or if the existing depot was expanded and updated (comparing historic photographs it seems like the later).

MILW Mayville, WI Depot
Description:
The southwest and southeast (originally northeast and northwest) walls of the former MILW Mayville, WI depot now located at Kekoskee, WI, as seen on 31 May '15. It has been moved about 2 miles northwest of its original site in the northeast quadrant of the intersection of N. Walnut St. and Dayton St., originally Fremont and Clark Sts., respectively, in Mayville by the Kekoskee/Williamstown Historical Society after they acquired it in 2007. It is being rehabilitated to serve as their museum. The depot has been significantly modified, it has been shortened from its original length, the large overhangs at the eaves and gables have been cut back, all of the eave brackets are missing, the gable brackets on the northeast end have been damaged, the gable brackets from the southwest end are missing, and the walls of the bay window no longer reach all the way to the roof. I don't know if these modifications were caused by the current or previous owners, but the current owners have built a small addition on the current northern end of the southeast wall.

Description:
The west and north walls of the former MILW depot on W. Main St. at S. 6th St. at Winneconne, WI, as seen on 7 Jun. '15, three days shy of the 42nd anniversary of the last train in town. This is the 2nd depot at Winneconne, WI. The original depot was built by Milwaukee & St. Paul in 1868 on its Ripon to Berlin/Winneconne line, when this section of the branch was laid. That depot burned down on 24 Sep. 1871. The current depot was completed by the Milwaukee & St. Paul in Nov. 1871. The depot was purchased by the Winneconne Historical Society in 1968 and was moved about 1,900 feet, nearly due west, from its original location on N. 1st St. just north of W. Main St. The last train in Winneconne ran on 10 Jun. '73 and the rails were pulled about 6 mos. later. The depot has been well-maintained and houses some nice railroad and local history artifacts. A beautifully restored MILW Fairmont speeder, MILW 8171, and SOO rail cart are spotted in front of the depot. Several other historic buildings have been moved and preserved near the depot and also house exhibits.

Description:
I first discovered Faribault's ex-Milwaukee Road depot during the summer of 1995. Back then a company loaded gondolas with recyclables (?) here. Sadly, that business did not last into the first decades of the 21st Century, resulting in the mothballed tracks you see now.

Milwaukee and St. Paul Railroad Depot
Description:
This Italianate style depot was built in 1871 by the Milwaukee and St. Paul Railroad (Milwaukee Road). It served for both passenger and freight business until the new passenger station was built a couple hundred feet to the south of it in 1907. The Caldwell Lumber Company, formed in 1919 took over us of the structure some time shortly after the new depot was built. Besides being used by Calwell Lumber (still in operation) the building has also been used as a warehouse for Vita-Plus.

Looking at southeast and northeast walls of AMTK, former MILW, depot along the CP rails at Columbus, WI on 11 Nov. '15. The depot was constructed in 1906 and originally had a tile roof. The previous depot, which dates to at least 1885 according to the Sanborn maps, some references state 1870s, is out of frame to right.

Columbus, WI MILW Station
Description:
Looking at southeast and northeast walls of the former MILW passenger and freight depot along the CP rails at Columbus, WI on 11 Nov. '15. The depot dates to at least 1885 according to the Sanborn maps, some references state 1870s. It is wood-framed with brick veneer. This end, slightly wider than the remainder of the building, was the passenger end. When the new passenger depot (out of frame to left) was built in 1906, this became the freight house. I don't know when the railroad stopped using it, but it obviously became part of the Caldwell Lumber Co. quite a while ago.

Milwaukee Road Artifacts
Description:
Though not in pristine original condition, the Milwaukee Road depot in Madison is looking good and doing well. A fascimilie of a Varsity train resides on the track next to the station. The Varsity operated between Chicago and Madison. The Kohl Center, home of Badger Basketball and Hockey, is in the background of the photo.

MILW Sherwood, WI Depot
Description:
The former MILW depot at Sherwood, WI on 27 Aug. '16. Built by the CM&StP ca. 1895 at what used to be referred to as Lower Sherwood. A 1971 newspaper article states that it was “remodeled in 1956 from a freight house, when the large depot, station and living quarters was razed.” It was used by MILW and SOO until at least 1971, when they requested permission to close it. The initial request was denied, but it probably wasn’t used much longer. It must be the smallest union depot I've ever seen. It has been moved and is an outbuilding on a farm.
