Description:  Built in 1948 by the Milwaukee Road as 1 of 2 business cars that were ordered in May 1947, the other being the MILWAUKEE; both cars were delivered in December 1948 and were the last cars built by the MILW shops. The MILWAUKEE was sold in 1977, and is now owned by the Friends of the 261, the WISCONSIN was sold at an unknown date and at one time carried the name STANLEY E.G. Description:  Built in 1955 by Budd in Lot #9646-155 as GN dome 46 seat chair #1323, 1 of 16 such cars built in that Lot for the 1955 EMPIRE BUILDER; the Lot was ordered in February 1954 and cars were delivered between June and July 1955. GN owned 12 (#1320-#1331), SP&S owned 1 (#1332), and CB&Q owned 3 (#1333-#1335). These 12 cars were intended to be renumbered as BN #4600-#4615, but these numbers were not applied, sold in 1971 to Amtrak as #9460-#9475. The #9463 was sold in 1993 to Dirk Lenthe, and was resold in 1998 to Doug Ebert-Charles Barenfanger-Dick Johnson. Sold at the 12/31/1948 Pullman divestiture to CGW and rebuilt in 1953 to business car #100. To C&NW in 1968 as #403 and named MINNESOTA in 1985. Description:  Built in 1948 by Budd in Lot #9657-019 as CB&Q dome 26 seat buffet lounge-15 bunk dormitory-steward's room-hostess's room #251 SILVER LOUNGE, 1 of 3 such cars built in that Lot for the CALIFORNIA ZEPHYR. 2 cars were built for the WP in Lot #9657-021 (#831-#832), and 1 for the D&RGW in Lot #9657-020 (#1140). All 6 cars were delivered between October and November 1948. In April 1970, CB&Q #252 SILVER ROUNDUP burned while in storage in WP's Oakland Yard, and as a result, WP #831 SILVER CHALET was sold to BN as #252 (2nd). CB&Q #250-#251 and #252 (2nd) were sold to Amtrak as #9810-#9812, which were intended to be renumbered as BN #802-#804, but these numbers were not applied. The SILVER LOUNGE was retired in October 1981 and sold in 1987 to Charles Barenfanger-Doug Ebert. Description:  This auxiliary water car was built in 1942 by Baldwin as the tender for SP Class AC-10 4-8-8-2 Cab Forward #4219, 1 of 40 such engines (#4205-#4244) in that Class, which were built between January and July 1942. After the #4219 was retired, its tender was reassigned to rotary snowplow #206 as SPMW #7206B, and later became water car SPMW #4764A. #4764A, along with water car #4764, was assigned to the Natron Cutoff (Cascade Summit) and based in Eugene. SP donated both water cars, with the #4764A becoming DLMX #4219 in time for the 1984 WORLDS FAIR DAYLIGHT to New Orleans; the #4764 was sold to the CP #2860 group. Title:  NP 8-6-4 Sleeper
Description:  Built in 1948 by P-S in Lot #6781 to Plan #4119 as an NP 8DXR-6RM-4DB sleeper, 1 of 18 such cars built in that Lot, which was ordered in August 1945; cars were delivered between July and September 1948. NP owned 14, CB&Q owned 3, and SP&S owned 1. In 1954-1955, the names on these cars were replaced by numbers: NP #350-#363, CB&Q #480-#482, and SP&S #366. Also in 1954, 1 of the bedrooms was redesignated as a compartment. In 1965, 5 of the NP cars were redesignated as dormitories #440-#444. At this time, I have been unable to identify which car is in Portland. 2 of the NP cars were wrecked in 1962, 2 were scrapped in 1969, and the 3 CB&Q cars are owned by museums. Description:  Built in 1939 by Budd in Lot #96501 as SAL 60 seat coach #6200, 1 of 3 such cars (#6200-#6202) built in that Lot, which was ordered in October 1938; cars were delivered in January 1939. SCL reduced the seating to 56 as #5604-#5606, and the cars were acquired by Amtrak with the same numbers. #5604 was retired in October 1981 and sold to the short-lived Seattle & North Coast RR, which operated the isolated ex-MILW line between Port Townsend and Port Angeles on the north end of the Olympic Peninsula after the Milwaukee Road closed the Pacific Extension in 1980. Description:  Built in 1949 by P-S in Lot #6808 to Plan #7593 as ACL 54 seat coach #239, 1 of 25 such cars built in that Lot, which was ordered in June 1946; cars were delivered between November 1949 and January 1950. ACL owned 20 (#228-#247), PRR owned 2 (#4043 & #4044, Plan #7593B), and RF&P owned 3 (#810-#812); ACL #247 was built for the IC CITY OF MIAMI pool with smooth sides. Amtrak acquired all 25 of these coaches, the ACL cars as #5450-#5469 (the SCL numbers), the PRR cars as #5443-#5444, and the RF&P cars as #5440-#5442. An additional 5 coaches (with 56 seats) were also built in this Lot for the FEC to Plan #7593A, which were sold to SAL in 1965, and were also acquired by Amtrak. #5461 was retired in 1979 and sold in 1981 to the Memphis Transportation Museum (Collierville, TN), and was acquired in 2012 by Iowa Pacific. Description:  Built in 1917 by Pullman as El Paso & Southwestern #500, transferred in 1924 to SP #128 SANTA ROSA, refurbished in 1937, sold in 1968 to Yreka Western #68, transferred in 1993 to KYLE #13, sold in 2004 to private ownership #415 NILES and moved to Redwood City, sold in 2011 to Oregon Pacific. The #415 is crossing the 2nd of 2 diamonds installed on the Oregon Pacific just south of the ORHF roundhouse where the new Metropolitan Area Express (MAX) Orange Line to Milwaukie crosses the OPRR just east of the new Tilikum Crossing over the Willamette River; the diamond seen in the photo is the eastbound track of the Orange Line, the westbound diamond is out of frame to the lower left. In this case, the new crosses the old, as the Oregon Pacific is the remaining segment of the Portland Traction Company interurban line to Milwaukie and Oregon City. Title:  BNSF #65 RATON PASS
Description:  Built in 1950 by AC&F in Lot #3358 to Plan #9011 as AT&SF 4DB-4C-2DR sleeper #1823 REGAL LANE, 1 of 15 4-4-2 sleepers built in that Lot, which was ordered in January 1948; cars were delivered between September and November 1950. Santa Fe retained 6 of these 15 sleepers, including the REGAL LANE, which was renumbered in 1974 to #65. Title:  BNSF #6 TOPEKA
Description:  Built in 1957 by Budd in Lot #9664-186 as AT&SF #5002 TOPEKA, 1 of 2 business cars ordered in January 1956 and delivered in August 1957, the other was #5003 SANTA FE (2nd). In 1974, the TOPEKA was renumbered to #51, and the SANTA FE (2nd) was renumbered to #50. TOPEKA is now BNSF #6 (#800648) and SANTA FE (2nd) is BNSF #7 (#800637). Note that BNSF has modified the open platform to an enclosed vestibule. Description:  Built in 1940 by Budd in Lot #96902 as AT&SF 32 seat club lounge 26 seat chair news stand #1397, 1 of 2 (#1396-#1397) ordered in July 1939 and delivered in January 1940. In November 1940, both cars were reconfigured to 47 seat club lounge, and were reconfigured again in 1952 to 23 seat club lounge 20 seat diner. #1397 was retained by Santa Fe, and was rebuilt in 1975 to track inspection-theater #89 to BNSF #32. 1 of 5 BNSF cars on the rear of the EB #8 EMPIRE BUILDER on Saturday, July 12th, 2014. MILW later reconfigured 39 cars to 40 seat leg rest chairs, which were renumbered to the #6xx-series in 1956-1957, #520 as #624 in 1957. Sold in 1974 to Amtrak #4010, retired and sold in 1976 to Union Center Venture in St. Louis, later to City of Prineville RY and used on Crooked River Dinner Train (with the name RICHARD BROWNING WRIGHT), then acquired by MRSR.
